Shannon Leigh McEwan, 14, passed away Tuesday, March 27, at her home in North Lima.
Shannon was born Oct. 27, 1997, in Youngstown, the daughter of Rodney and Laurie (Borsh) McEwan, and younger sister to Laura Elizabeth McEwan.
She was in eighth grade at South Range Middle School.
Among those who will cherish her precious memory, Shannon is survived by her maternal grandmother, Joan Borsh, paternal grandparents, Rodney and Marty McEwan and Renate McEwan, all of Boardman.
Her maternal grandfather, Frank Borsh died in 1999.
Shannon also leaves many aunts, uncles and cousins whose lives she touched in many ways.
Shannon was active in many school and extra-curricular activities. She was a member of the Firestone Area Swim Team and YMCA Neptunes Swim Team.
She was involved in school plays, played baritone in the band, was looking forward to her first track season, and her third talent show performance.
Shannon loved music and art, and was certain she was going to be a famous artist one day. She recently received a “superior” rating at contest for her piano performance of Beethoven’s “Ode To Joy.” She participated in Special Olympics swim meets and Challenger Baseball.
Shannon was especially proud of her participation with friends and family in Down Syndrome Association of the Valley’s annual Buddy Walk. She was active in the Westminster Church Junior High Youth Group.
A celebration of her life will be held at 5 p.m. on Sunday, April 1, at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, 119 Stadium Drive in Boardman, with the Rev. David Joachim officiating.
Burial will be at Columbiana Cemetery with a committal service at 11 a.m. on Monday.
Friends may call from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the church.
