Helen J. Bortner, 93, of Columbiana, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 7 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on Sept. 17, 1919 in Youngstown, the daughter of Mount and Janrose (Oakley) Pursifull.
A 1937 graduate of Edgewood High School in Ashtabula, Helen owned and operated Main Street Motors in Columbiana with her husband Bud for over 50 years.
She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary Post 290 in Columbiana, the Historical Society of Columbiana, and the First United Methodist Church of Columbiana, and a past member of the Salem Golf Club.
In earlier years, Helen loved to golf. She also enjoyed traveling, playing bridge, which she played into her 90’s, and spending time with her family.
Helen leaves to cherish her precious memory her son, Tom (Cindy) Bortner of Columbiana; a grandson, Tim Bortner of Columbiana; a daughter-in-law, Marcia; and a special friend, Richard Luce of Columbus.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Herbert W. “Bud” Bortner, and her son Herbert Bortner, Jr., who passed away in 2011.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 10 at the Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in Columbiana with the Rev. Paula Archdeacon officiating.
The family will receive friends from 12 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
A special thanks is extended to Senior Independence Hospice Care and Debbie Ludwig, Janie Fletcher, and Anna Greeneisen, who were Helen’s personal caregivers, for their care and compassion to the Bortner Family.
