Carl M. Lipp

Carl M. Lipp, 88, of East Palestine, passed away Monday morning at his home.

He was born on August 23, 1924 on the family farm in East Palestine, the son of Curtis and Nina (Cunningham) Lipp.

A graduate of Springfield Township High School, Carl retired from the Ohio Department of Transportation. He was a school bus driver for Springfield Local School District for 26 years. But most importantly, he was a farmer on the family farm all of his life.

He was a member of the Society for Preservation of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America, East Palestine Lodge 417, the Youngstown Shriners, the Ohio Farm Bureau, the Ruritan Club of Unity Township, and Mt. Olivet United Church of Christ.

Carl was a past Unity Township Trustee, a past Columbiana County Fair Board member, and was recently honored for his family-owned Century Farm.

In his spare time, he was an avid fisherman, and especially enjoyed deep sea fishing in Florida. He loved to travel too, having visited Alaska three times.

Carl leaves to cherish his precious memory three daughters, Marilyn (Chuck) Geiss of East Palestine, Elizabeth (Rev. Bert) Ambrose of Valley City, Oh., and Barbara Lipp of East Palestine, with whom he made his home; a son, Lee Lipp of East Palestine; a brother, Harold (Marian) Lipp of East Palestine; a sister, Evelyn (Harold) Johns of Zelienople, Pa.; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-grandchild on the way.

Besides his parents, Carl was preceded in death by his wife Lois June (Wright) Lipp, whom he married January 10, 1945 and passed away on August 17, 1998; and two sisters, Eleanor Dykes and Elizabeth Powers.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 10 at Mt. Olivet United Church of Christ with the Rev. Melinda Q. Lacefield officiating.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in North Lima and from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, material contributions are suggested to be made to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Boardman, Oh, 44512; the Mt. Olivet UCC Building Fund; or to Wheels of Mercy, PO BOX 302, North Lima, Ohio, 44452.

Family and friends are invited to visit www.seederly-mongandbeck to sign the online guestbook or to send private condolences.
