Columbiana – A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at St. Jude Catholic Church in Columbiana with Fr. Dan Cipar celebrating for James “Jim” Danks, 74, of Columbiana, who passed away early Monday morning at St. Elizabeth Health Center surrounded by his wife and children.
Mr. Danks was born July 1st, 1938 in Youngstown to Francis and Rose (Hackett) Danks. A US Army veteran, Mr. Danks married the former Mamie Norman on February 10, 1962. Jim worked in the steel mills until he joined the GM Lordstown plant in 1966. He would remain there for the next 30 years, working in maintenance as a booth cleaner before retiring in 1996.
He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also loved camping.
Jim leaves to cherish his precious memory his wife, Mamie, with whom he recently celebrated 50 years of marriage; daughter Mamie (John Sr.) Tollas of Columbiana; son Jim (Debbie) Danks of New Waterford; daughters Rosemarie (Gary) Maiorana, Mary Ann (Mike) Good, and Margaret (Lower) Danks, all of Columbiana; a son-in-law Dan Lower of New Waterford; grandchildren, Johnny and Nicki Tollas of Columbiana, Jake and Allison Danks of New Waterford, Joseph (Cassie) Maiorana ,Diane Maiorana, Andrew, Nick, and Zack Good, all of Columbiana, Ashley, Craig, and Brent Lower of New Waterford; and Cierra Swinehart of Columbiana; and great-grandchildren, J.J., Katie, Luke, and Chloe. He is also survived by two brothers, Frank (Joyce) of Canton and Bill (Barbara) of Boardman and three sisters, Dorothy (Russ) Franklin-Sarkes of Boardman, Sally (Carl) Esposito of Liberty, and Roselyn (Bob) Mikolich of Struthers; and many nieces and nephews, too numerous to mention.
Besides his parents, Jim was preceded in death by one sister, Carol Sabanick.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, October 17th, at Seederly-Mong and Beck Funeral Home in Columbiana, and also one half-hour prior to the service, from 10 – 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home on Thursday, October 18th.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made in Jim’s name to the Roswell Park Cancer Institute at Roswell Park Alliance Foundation, Elm and Carlton Streets, Buffalo, NY 14263.
