Harold Bernard Orr, 88, of Columbiana, Ohio, passed away at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 4, 2012, after a courageous battle with cancer. Harold was born on August 22, 1924 in Salineville, Ohio, the son of the late William and Leona (Leishman) Orr.
Harold was a graduate of Salineville High School. He joined the Army and served in the European Theater in W.W.II., where he landed on Omaha Beach on D-day and was awarded a Purple Heart and two Bronze Stars as well as many other medals. Mr. Orr, after returning from the war, was employed at Wm. K. Stamets Company for 43 years until his retirement.
Harold was an active member of the First Christian Church in Columbiana where he served in the past on the building committee and bus ministry as well as being a past Elder, Deacon, Jr. Boys’ Sunday school class teacher for fifty years and leader of the Super Saints Group. He was also a Trustee at Elkorn Valley Christian Service Camp, where he was very active. Harold will also be remembered as a devoted Crestview Rebel fan.
Mr. Orr was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman, and looked forward to vacationing in Canada with his family every year. He vacationed at Sandy Lake in Buckhorn, Ontario, for sixty-three years. Harold, above all, was a devoted family man and loved watching his grandchildren and great-children in various school activities.
Harold was preceded in death on May 11, 1995, by his wife Olive June (Miles) Orr whom he married on November 21, 1946, and by one twin daughter Jeanie Lynne Orr. He is survived by two daughters, Jennifer (David) Roberts of Andover, Ohio and Jill (Mark) Beck of Columbiana, Ohio; one son, Jeffrey (Malenia) Orr of Leetonia, Ohio; one sister, Betty Cabas of Salem, Ohio; one brother, Robert (Mary) Orr of Sevierville, Tennessee; six grandchildren, Christy Roberts, Heidi (Randall) Troyer, Amanda (Kent Bondi) Roberts, Heather (Ry) Torhan, Joshua Orr, Brian Orr and two great-grandchildren, Austin and Hayley Roberts. Mr. Orr was preceded in death by two sisters, Althea Sponseller and Gay Needham.
A funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 8, 2012, at the First Christian Church in Columbiana with Mr. Clarence Mansfield and Mr. John Reed officiating. Burial will be in Columbiana Cemetery where military honors will be observed. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Friday, December 7, 2012, at the Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in Columbiana and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested that material donations be made to the First Christian Church Oasis Food Ministry.
