Edgar 'Bud" Moser

U.S. VeteranBOARDMAN – Edgar ‘Bud’ Moser, 92, of Columbiana, passed away Saturday morning at St. Elizabeth Medical Center Boardman campus after a two month illness.

He was born on June 30, 1920 in Orrville, Ohio, the son of Edgar E. and Clara L. Miller Moser, and moved to Columbiana in 1934.

After graduating Columbiana High School, Edgar served in World War II as part of the Combat Landing Team CT2/2 of the Second Marine Division. In 1946 he returned to his job at the former NRM Corporation where he became a supervisor in 1954. He retired in 1985.

Edgar enjoyed scouting, and performed in many positions during his lifetime. He attained the rank of Eagle Scout, and was a member of the Order of the Arrow. He served as Scoutmaster of Troop 18 from 1947 through 1960, and then as Cubmaster for Pack 17 until 1964. He served as Scoutmaster of a group of scouts from Columbiana County, the Akron Area and the Wheeling area as well.

Edgar was an active member of the First United Methodist Church where he served in many capacities including teaching Sunday school and Bible Study. He served The Board of Discipleship of the Methodist Church and Church Renewal out of Atlanta, GA as a Lay Evangelist from 1970 until 1996.

An avid Amateur Radio Operator, Edgar served in many local and national emergencies for which he received national attention.

His volunteer services included teaching first aid; Salvation Army; Meals on Wheels; visiting hospitals, nursing homes and shut-ins; and The Way Station.

Edgar is survived by his loving wife, the former Bonny Jennings, whom he married in December 9, 1942; a son, Tom (Laure) of Fulton, IL; and two granddaughters, Sarah and Elizabeth.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, James E. Moser, and three sisters, Irene Heaton, Betty Simpson, and Ruth Evans.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at The First United Methodist Church in Columbiana with Rev. Paula Archdeacon officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday January 15 at the Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in Columbiana with informal calling hours from 2 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home. Calling hours will also be one hour prior to the services Wednesday, January 16 at the church.

Military honors will be conducted at Columbiana Cemetery chapel following the committal at the cemetery.
