William R. Houlette

Died: April 14, 2008

U.S. VeteranI, William Ross Houlette, 81, of Houlette's Mountain Rd, Lisbon was called home on April 14, 2008 at 2:35 pm of a lengthy illness.

I grew up in the Columbiana area before residing to the Lisbon area. I graduated from Fairfield High School, in 1943, after graduation I was a member of the United States Army. After my service time was up, I made my living as a cow farmer until 1959, I started my own business of WRH Improvement Company, and then in 1978 I incorporated the WRH insulation company. I retired in 1978, after that I traveled the local flea markets selling mini donuts, sandwiches, and cashews with my wife, Betty. Then from 1983-1993 with my wife and son, we started Houlette's Mountain Farm Market in Lisbon.

I was preceded in death by my parents and two brothers, Cary Augustus Houlette, Dorothy Mae Bell, Max Houlette, and Leland Houlette. On June 4, 1949, I married Betty Louise Reese, we had three children, Ann Jo Houlette-Caldwell, Robin Lee Houlette, and Lee Allen and Karen Houlette, and my son in law who was like a son to me, William Caldwell all of Lisbon. I have three sisters, Miriam Miller (Walter), Carolyn Esenwien (Paul), and Betty Monteloene.

I was an avid lover of John Deere tractors, traveling the west of the United States, a U. S. and Columbiana County history buff, and frequently visited a variety of local business "to get the local Lisbon scoop."

I passionately loved my grandchildren and their spouses, Mark Caldwell, Christine & Ronald Buchanan, Dana & Michael Blackburn of Lisbon, Steven and Mindi Houlette of Leetonia, and Collin, Darrin and Rachel Houlette of Lisbon.

Though I loved my grandchildren, my great-grandchilren had a special place in heart and watching them grow and play on the farm was the greatest joy, Sarah Caldwell, Peyton and Brice Blackburn, Madelyn and Sophia Buchanan, of Lisbon and Sefton and Ashten Houlette of Leetonia.

I will sadly miss my friends Michael and Amanda Butream, and my faithful bedside companion, Jillie, the yellow dog.

I am grateful to my beloved family and friends but ask that no funeral arrangements be held. A private service for my family will be held at a later date. In lue of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of the Mahoning Valley.

I have enjoyed my time on this earth, thank you to all of you that made my life...a blessed one. -William Ross Houlette
