Arlyn 'Artie' Lee (Stewart) Dillon

April 15, 1937 ~ March 28, 2017 (age 79) 79 Years Old

LONGMONT, CO - Arlyn (Artie) Lee Dillon passed on from this earth on March 28, 2017.  She was born April 15, 1937 to Erma (Meister) and George Stewart in Whitaker Pennsylvania.  She attended Whitaker Elementary and then moved to Homestead Park and attended Woodlawn Junior High and then graduated Munhill High School in PA.  She attended Mount Union College in Alliance, OH.  At Mount Union, she studied Elementary Education and graduated with a BS.  During her time at Mount Union, she met and later married the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Smith Dillon.

They had four children (Robert Randy, Heidi Rae, Shannon Lee and George Taylor) and settled in Columbiana, Ohio to raise their children.  Arlyn followed her dream of teaching and taught at Crestview Middle School for over 20 years.  She attended, taught Sunday school and sang in the Columbiana Methodist Church.  During this time, the family spent summers in Harmony PA and helped found Indian Brave Campground.

After her career as a teacher, she traveled with Bob as his navigator, for the next 15 years.  They visited every state in the continental US.  She worked as a flag car driver for the pipeline jobs. They also operated a climbing wall in the Midwest and spent time in Texas.

In the later years, Bob and Arlyn settled in Longmont Colorado.  They joined the Heart of Longmont United Methodist Church.  After Bob's passing, Arlyn became highly active in the local community.  She volunteered at the Longmont Hospital in the gift shop, mentored at Timberline school through Kids Hope, volunteered at the Homestead House, and Our Center homeless shelter.  She sang in the Wesley Anne and Chancellor choir at the Heart of Longmont United Methodist Church.  She was a member of care team and other church groups. Although Artie moved from PA over 50 years ago, she remained an avid sports fan cheering on the Pittsburgh Pirates, Penguins and Steelers.

Artie is survived by 3 of her children Dr. Robert Dillon (Lynn) of Evergreen, CO; Heidi Dix of Houston, TX; George Dillon of Longmont, CO son-in-law, Fred Bussard (Julie) of Columbiana, OH; 6 grandchildren Mark and Ashley Dix (Houston, TX), Keegan, Cole and Luke Dillon (Evergreen, CO), and Jackson Bussard (Columbiana, OH); and many nieces and nephews.  Artie is preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Jan, her daughter, Shannon Bussard; her son-in-law, Mark Dix and her grandson, Christian.

She will be remembered on July 5, 2017 at 11:00 AM in a grave side service at the Crest Haven Memorial Gardens in New Waterford Ohio.  Memorial donations can be given to your favorite charities that support your community.
