Dorothy M. Beck, 83, of Canfield, Ohio passed away Friday evening at her home with her family by her side. She was born May 31, 1934 in Salem, Ohio the daughter of the late Arden M. and Nannie E. (Swope) Lehman.
Mrs. Beck graduated from Greenford Schools in 1952. She was a life-long member of Midway Mennonite Church where she was in charge of Funeral Meal Committee for several years and was a member of the Mary Dorcas Circle. Dorothy was an avid cook and baker. Mrs. Beck was well renown for her coconut cream and pecan pies. She exhibited some of her baked goods at the Canfield Fair where she had earned Best of Show in 2016 and also had received many blue ribbons. Dorothy enjoyed playing 500 with several card clubs. In earlier years she worked at Sears in Salem. Later, she was a domestic cook for the Beeghley’s in Boardman. Dorothy worked for Mahoning County Green Township as a poll person for several years.
Dorothy is survived by two sons, Lee (Karen) Beck of Salem, Mark (Jill) Beck of Columbiana; one sister Helen (Lauren) Bowman of Archibald, Ohio; five grandchildren, Brandy (Brian) Hively of Louisville, Kentucky, Dan (Jeanne) Beck of Salem, Adam (Melissa) Beck of Salem, Heidi (Randy) Troyer of East Rochester, Heather (Ry) Torhan of Columbiana; and seven great-grandchildren, Savannah and Samuel Hively, Wyatt and Holly Beck, Caden and Morgan Beck and Emalynne Troyer.
Mrs. Beck was preceded in death by her husband, John L. Beck on May 30, 2009 whom she married June 20, 1954 and one granddaughter, Hollie Beck.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at the Midway Mennonite Church in Columbiana with Pastor Matthew Peterson officiating. Calling hours will be from 5-8 p.m. on Monday, November 6, 2017 at the Seederly-Mong and Beck Funeral Home in Columbiana and one hour prior to the service, from 10-11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 7,2017 at the church. Burial will be in Midway Cemetery.
