Betty Lou Magill, 91
COLUMBIANA – Betty Lou Magill, 91, passed away peacefully Monday March 4, 2019.
Betty Lou was born on January 13, 1928 in Massilon, Ohio, a daughter of Margaret Borts Smith. The Borts family was an early pioneer family who settled on the west side of Youngstown. When they broke up their large family farm, they donated all of the land for Borts Athletic Field & Pool and numerous streets to the City of Youngstown with the understanding that the name would always remain Borts.
Mrs. Magill was well known for her ability to show American Saddle Bred horses and to teach Saddle Seat Equitation. She also maintained a small antique business. Betty was married to her first husband, James, for 27 years until his death in 2001. In 2006, she married her second husband Melvin D. Freeze, Sr, an antique auctioneer. Together they operated an antique auction house until his passing in 2011.
Betty Lou was preceded in death by her parents, a son Scott who passed in 1976, and both of her husband’s. Betty’s passing ends the Borts family line which she was very proud of.
Betty’s family would like to thank Salem Regional Medical Center, Community Hospice and Megan from Ideal Health Care for helping Betty Lou in her time of need.
Services will be held at the Columbiana Cemetery Chapel on Thursday March 14, 2019 at 1:00.
