SEBRING – Martha T. Corbett, 101, passed away peacefully Friday evening, August 25 at Crandall Medical Center of Sebring.
Martha was born on July 21, 1916 in Jewett, OH, a daughter of Harvey Grey and Blanche (Amos) Thompson Sr. She graduated from Kent State University, and held degrees in English, Journalism, and Elementary Education. Martha taught at schools in Ohio and Florida for almost 40 years. She also acted as Assistant Principal at an elementary school in Florida.
Martha was affectionately known as “The General”, and loved being with her family, especially treasuring her time with her nieces and nephews.
She leaves to cherish her precious memory her sister Esther Lois Knopp of Toledo, her brother John of Fairborn; her sister-in-law Yolanda Thompson of San Francisco; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Charles Corbett, her siblings Mary (Leslie) Kent, Sarah Jane Thompson, Harvey G. (Bettie) Thompson Jr., Robert (Etta Mae) Thompson, Richard Thompson, Virginia Ann Thompson, Ruth (Robert) Culp, infant brother Joseph, brother-in-law Warren Knopp, and sister–in-law Ruth Thompson.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, September 2 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel at Copeland Oaks, 800 S. 15th Street, Sebring, OH with Pastor Marty Radcliff officiating.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, at 1:00 p.m. at Copeland Oaks.
Interment will take place at noon at Fairmount Memorial Park in Alliance.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations may be made in Martha’s memory to Kent State University, “Martha Thompson Corbett Scholarship”, and mail to Andra Polasky, Center for Gift and Estate Planning, Kent State University, 350 S. Lincoln Street, PO Box 5190, Kent, OH 44242..
