Obituary

Columbiana - Adin R. Kauffman, 84, died Saturday afternoon May 20, 2006 at Salem Community Hospital. He was born on the family farm in Fairfield Township on May 1, 1922, the son of Henry B. Kauffman and the former Sadie Blough. A naval veteran of World War II, Adin returned to the area to work and raise a family. He graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Accounting from Youngstown College and then began an accounting practice and Kauffman Realty of Columbiana which he operated for over thirty years. Active in the community and in community affairs, Adin served as Columbiana Village Treasurer for a number of years and later on Village Council. His proudest achievement during his tenure on Council was his participation in the establishment of Columbiana's industrial park. He was a member of Kiwanis, Allen Lodge #276 F&AM and the Benjamin Firestone Post #290 of the American Legion. His expertise was also sought after by local institutions serving as a director of the former New Waterford Bank, Fairfield Machine and most recently as a director of Perpetual Saving Bank until his death. He also served on the County's Investment Advisory Board after the investment scandal of the early 1990's and on the Salem Community Business Advisory Board. He was preceded in death by his sisters: Emma Mae Horst and Jennie Harold and his daughter-in-law Mrs. Scott (Elizabeth) Kauffman. Adin is survived by his wife, the former Betty Jane Johnson, whom he married on July 2, 1948, their children: Timothy J. (Beverly) Kauffman of Columbiana, Scott Kauffman of Newport Beach, CA, Marla M. (Timothy) Bartholomew of Kalispell, MT and Gregory B. (Lisa) Kauffman of Columbiana, seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 27, 2006 at the Zion Hill Church of the Brethren with Rev. John Bartholomew officiating. Burial will be in Zion Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-4 & 7-9 pm Friday, May 26, 2006 at the Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in Columbiana and one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, material contributions be made to Zion Hill Church of the Brethren.
