SALEM - Alan W. Smith, 63, of Leetonia, passed away Wednesday evening, February 24 at Salem Regional Medical Center. Mr. Smith was born on July 3, 1952 in Berwick, PA, a son of Bill and Alice (Hiney) Smith. He graduated from Columbiana High School, and married the former Sylvia Panfil on May 23, 1992. Alan was one of the original operators at Valley Truck Outfitters in North Lima, and was currently working at C.A.R.T.S. as a driver. Alan enjoyed watching Fox News and playing along with Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. His favorite pastime was spending time with his grandchildren. He leaves to cherish his precious memory his wife Sylvia of Leetonia; a son Mike of Columbiana; a daughter Missy Smith-Duvall and her husband Darrell of Columbiana; two stepsons, David Guerrier of Leetonia and Neil Guerrier of Lewisville, TX; 10 grandchildren Breanna, Courtney, Hunter, Camdyn, Summer, Cade, Caleb, Seyla, Jonathan, and Jordan; a sister Kathy Alfriend and her husband Kyle of Dublin, OH; two brothers Karl of Columbiana and Brad of NC; and his dog Abby. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents and his cherished dog Maggie. The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 28 at 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. at Seederly-Mong and Beck Funeral Home, 154 S. Elm Street, Columbiana. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations may be made in Alan's memory to the funeral home to help defray final expenses.
