Andrew George Doria, 92, passed away April 27, 2011, at Beeghly Oaks Rehabilitation Center in Boardman after a one month illness. Andrew and his late wife, Marian, were united in marriage April 27, 1946 and reunited in heaven April 27, 2011 to celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary together.Born on December 17, 1918 in Youngstown, Andrew was the youngest of eight sons born to Luigi and Rosa Maria (Cascioli) Doria.Andrew graduated from Rayen High School in 1936. In the summer of 1936, at the age of 17, Andrew enlisted in the Navy and trained at the Great Lakes Naval Training Base graduating in January of 1937. After being released from the Navy as a Seaman First Class at age 21, Andrew worked at Truscon Steel as a welder from 1940 to 1943. In October of 1943 he was drafted into the U.S. Navy Seabees which took him to North Africa and Palermo, Sicily. During a five day rest period in Rome, Andrew was able to experience a papal visitation. He was discharged from the Seabees in January of 1946. Andrew resumed working at Truscon Steel, retiring in January, 1981 after 40 years.Andrew married Marian Lois Heaton April 27, 1946. Marian died on May 31, 1986 after 40 years of marriage. Andrew was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Anthony, Charles, Joseph, Louis, Daniel and Vincent.Andrew leaves to cherish his memory daughters Lois (Edwin) Smith and Paula Anderson of Boardman; grandchildren Stephen (Amy) Smith, Bradley (Mary) Smith, Stacia R. Smith, Jessyca (Jason) Hovis and F. Brock Anderson; great-grandchildren Spencer, Reagan, Sullivan and TAC.a Smith; brother Dominic A. Doria; and many nephews and nieces.Andrew was a member of and office holder in the American Legion Post No. 565, the Italian-American Veterans Post 3, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1423.Andrew was a member of St. Anthony's of Padua, Youngstown. John Reed, Pastoral Minister, and Clarence Mansfield of the First Christian Church of Columbiana will conduct the service celebrating Andrew's life on May 2, 2011 at 11:00am at Seederly-Mong and Beck Funeral Home, North Lima Chapel, 11500 Market Street, North Lima, OH 44452 where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. The family would like to thank the staffs of Glenellen Assisted Living, Beeghly Oaks Care Center, Hospice of the Valley and Dr. Charles Wilkins for the care and compassion given to Andrew. The family would also like to acknowledge Deacon Richard Milanek and Deacon Robert Redig of St. Luke's parish for the spiritual care given to Andrew while at Glenellen and Beeghly Oaks.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that a charitable contribution be made to one's charity or church of their choice in memory of Andrew. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Boardman.
