Arrel J. Black, age 84, of Crandall Medical Center, Sebring and formally of Kibler Road, New Waterford, OH, passed away at 3:48 am Thursday, November 10, 2011 at Crandall Medical Center, Sebring, OH following an extended illness. Mr. Black, the son of Melvin and Sara (Snyder) Black, was born on March 14, 1927 at the family farm, New Waterford. Arrel was a graduate of Petersburg High School. He served in the Armed Forces during WWII with the Signal Company Eleventh Airborne Division. Mr. Black retired in 1989 from the East Palestine City School District as a school bus driver. Prior to that he had worked as a barber in New Waterford and an upholsterer in East Palestine. He was also a farmer throughout all of his life. Arrel was a life long member of the Trinity United Methodist Church of New Springfield. He had also been a member of the East Palestine American Legion and VFW of New Springfield #2799. Arrel is preceded in death by his wife, Helen M. (Sell) Black, whom he married June 25, 1947. He is survived by four daughters, Marie (Edward) Miller of Homeworth, OH, Nancy (Edward) Walter of Wyoming, MI, Dianna (Robert) Stump of East Palestine, OH, and Diane (Robert) Banar of Salineville, OH. He is also survived by seventeen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his brothers, Earl, Vaughn, Cecil, Lewis and Randall Black. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 12, 2011 at Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home, Columbiana at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Ken Clark officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Burial following at New Springfield Cemetery.
