Barbara S. Burgess, 78

COLUMBIANA – Barbara S. Burgess, 78, went home to be with Jesus Thursday afternoon, October 23, 2025, at Hospice House.

Barbara was born on October 6, 1947, in Warren, a daughter of John and Theodosia (Tomszek) Szewc. She was a lifelong practicing Catholic, saying her daily rosary and prayers. A 1965 graduate of Cardinal Mooney high school, she worked at American Paper Company for or an impressive 45 years as a machine operator. She was an avid reader, and enjoyed Polka music, Elvis Presley, playing bingo and cards.

She leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 52 years, James Burgess; daughter Lorie (Stephen) Terry of Weirton, WV and son Jack (Amy) Burgess of Niles; grandchildren Tyler Burgess and Paige (Seth) Crowe; step-grandchildren Cassandra 'Cassie' Pleacher and Samantha 'Sammie' Hahn; great-granddaughter Amelia 'Mia' Burgess; siblings Angela 'Noreen' Migliozzi, Robert 'Bob' (Bea) Szewc, Margaret 'Margie' Dennison-Wolfe; and many nieces and nephews.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, sister Elizabeth 'Betty' Szewc, and brothers-in-law Joe Migliozzi, Taylor Dennison and John Wolfe.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at 11:00 am at Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home, 154 S. Elm Street, Columbiana.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the funeral home, and again on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at 10:00 am, an hour before the services at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that donations may be made in Barbara's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105 (www.stjude.org).

The family has entrusted Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in Columbiana, Ohio with the arrangements for their loved one.
