Salem - Betty Marie Barkley, 88, of New Waterford, passed away late Monday evening, December 14 at Salem Regional Medical Center. Betty was born on July 28, 1927 in Waterford Township, Michigan, a daughter of Harvey and Mary (Merrill) Pine. A 1945 Columbiana High School graduate, she married Earl F. Barkley on October 8, 1945 and together they would raise seven children. Betty also worked at H & R Block as a certified tax preparer for many years. She enjoyed bowling, gardening and going to auctions. Betty belonged to the Victory Christian Church in Columbiana. She will be greatly missed by five daughters Sandra Bates of Gainesville, TX, Anne Benner of Columbiana, Kathy (Steve Tsilimos) Barkley of Warren, OH, Ellen Swake of Tulsa, OK, and Laurie (Steve) Travis of Colonial Heights, VA; two sons Fred (Tammy) Barkley of Salem and Keith (Linda) Barkley of Leetonia; 19 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren; and 12 great-great grandchildren; two sisters Joyce Durdel of Michigan and Maryellen Little of Oregon; and a brother George Pine of Kentucky. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Earl who passed away August 20, 2002; her sister Shirley Miller, her brother Richard, sons-in-law Lawrence Benner, Noah Hamilton, and Raymond Swake; and great grandson Logan Benner. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 18 at 11:00 a.m. at Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home, 154 S. Elm Street, Columbiana with Pastor John Bartholomew officiating. The family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m., an hour before the services at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Midway Mennonite Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that donations may be made in Betty's memory to Angels for Animals, 4750 W South Range Rd, Canfield, OH 44406. The family has entrusted Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in Columbiana, Ohio with the arrangements for their loved one.
