Obituary

COLUMBIANA - Betty I. Brooke, 98, passed away Friday evening, September 23 at Whispering Pines surrounded by her family. Betty was born on June 29, 1918 in New Galilee, PA, a daughter of Walter and Elsie (McCaughtry) McDevitt. A 1936 North Lima High School graduate, Betty was a member of the SA Larura Garden Club in North Lima, a member of Waggin Wheels Camp Club, and had been active in the Ladies Auxilary of the Beaver Township and Fire Department. She also was a past Den Mother of the Cub Scouts. She was the oldest member of Mt. Olivet U.C.C. where she was a past Sunday school teacher and a member of the Quilting Circle for over forty years. She also loved the Cleveland Indians. Betty leaves to cherish her precious memory her daughter Kaye Gregory and her husband Don of Columbiana; son Ward and his wife Peggy of Columbiana and son Bruce and his wife Beth of Boardman;16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren;and eight great great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband and high-school sweetheart Ray D. Brooke, whom she married on June 19, 1937 and who passed away June 23, 1995; son Lee; five grandchildren; sisters Dorothy Nagle, Mary Garrison, and Katherine Morgan; and brothers Frank and Beverly McDevitt. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 28 at 11 a.m. at Mt. Olivet U.C.C., 410 W. South Range Road, North Lima, with Pastor Michael Smith officiating. Interment will follow at North Lima Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 27 from 6-8 p.m. at the Seederly- Mong & Beck Funeral Home, 11500 Market Street, North Lima, and also one hour prior to the service on Wednesday, at 10:00 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations may be made in Betty's memory to Mt. Olivet U.C.C., 410 W. South Range Road, North Lima, OH 44452. The family wishes to thank the staff of Whispering Pines, who were just wonderful to their mother. Betty was a resident for 11 years, and greatly enjoyed playing cards, bingo, and trivia. They truly made her feel special. The family would also like to extend their gratitude to Community Hospice, which helped them through this difficult time. The family has entrusted Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in North Lima, Ohio with the arrangements for their loved one.
