COLUMBIANA - Betty Jane Kauffman, 84, died at home, Tuesday afternoon March 3, 2009. Born in Lisbon, OH on May 20, 1924, the daughter of James B. and Edna M. (Smith) Johnson. She resided in the area her entire life. A graduate of the Hanna Mullins School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse, Betty worked for the late Dr. Ziegler of Salem and in the Salem City Hospital and later with the Visiting Nurse Assoc. Of Salem. Active in her church over the years, Zion Hill, Church of the Brethren, Betty served in several leadership positions. She was also a member of the Columbiana Rose Society. She was preceded in death by her husband Adin R. Kauffman, whom she married on July 2, 1949, brothers Robert & William Johnson and by her daughter-in-law Mrs. Scott (Elizabeth) Kauffman. Betty is survived by her children: Timothy J. (Beverly) Kauffman of Columbiana, Scott Kauffman of Newport Beach, CA, Marla M. (Timothy) Bartholomew of Kalispell, MT and Gregory B. (Lisa) Kauffman of Columbiana, seven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Shirley (Dean) Ward, Ruth (John) Woodburn, both of Elkton, OH and her brothers Seward Johnson of Hopewell, OH and Richard Johnson of Missouri. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2009, at the Zion Hill Church of the Brethren, with Rev. John Bartholomew officiating. Burial will follow at the Zion Hill Church Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-6 p.m. on Friday, March 13, 2009 at the Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in Columbiana and from 10-11 a.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2009 prior to the service at the church. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, material contributions be made to Zion Hill Church of the Brethren.
