Bill L. Willis, 86 of 1229 Columbiana-Lisbon Rd. Columbiana, passed away at 3:05 a.m. on Sunday, March 30, 2008 at St. Mary's Alzheimer's Center from complications of alzheimer's. Bill was born January 1, 1922 in Cowan, Tennessee, the son of John and Lettie Hill Willis. Mr. Willis moved to North Lima in 1947. He was an accountant and bookkeeper, last working at NAPA of North Lima as a sales clerk retiring in 1999. Bill attended Calvary United Methodist Church of North Lima as well as Grace Church of Columbiana. Mr. Willis served in the U.S. Navy during W.W. II serving in the Atlantic. Bill graduated from Deckard High School in Deckard, Tennessee. He attended Youngstown State University. Mr. Willis served as secretary-treasurer for Beaver Twp. for many years. He was actively involved in the community. Bill was past President of Beaver Twp. Ruritan, past Master of Allen Lodge # 276 F&AM, past Patron of Columbiana Chapter #428 Order of Eastern Star, 32 Degree Scottish Rite Valley of Steubenville and he was a member of Ruth Shrine # 64 of the White Shrine of Jerusalem in Poland, Ohio. Bill enjoyed woodworking and especially liked making cedar chests. Mr. Willis was preceded in death on March 11, 1978 by his first wife, Ruth A. Rodgers, whom he married June 10, 1944. He is survived by his second wife, the former Helen L. Berryman Cartwright, whom he married August 3, 1991. Other survivors include a daughter Susan Jackson of Homeworth, a son Dr. John Willis and his wife Laurann of Plain City, Ohio, a step-daughter Deborah Russell and her husband Ronald of Columbiana, a step-son Randall Cartwright and his wife Christene of Clarion, Pennsylvania; 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Bill was also preceded in death by four brothers and a sister. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 2, 2008, at the Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in Columbiana with Rev. Dr. Robert Joy of the Grace Church of Columbiana officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the service from 12:00-1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at the Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in Columbiana. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, material tributes may be made to St. Mary's Alzheimer's Center of Columbiana, Ohio.
