Obituary

Billie H. Walters, 90, of Hartley Ave. Salem, Ohio, passed away at 10:35 p.m. on Saturday, January 3, 2009 at the Salem Community Hospital following a brief illness. Billie was born March 30, 1918 in Belfast, Arkansas, the son of Bowlin H. and Ora M. Moore Walters. Mr. Walters was a die maker at General Motors Lordstown Plant for 30 plus years. He retired in l976. Billie was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Walters served in the U.S. Navy during W.W. II. He was an excellent mechanic, played softball and also helped care for the softball field at Kelly Park in Salem well into his 70's Billie was preceded in death on August 1, 2007, by his wife, the former Mattie Ruth Gosnell. They were married October 27, 1940. Survivors include three daughters Carolyn Luker and her husband Phil of Thorsby, AL and twin daughters Jean Lendabarker and her husband Edwin of Aurora, IL and Janet Goehring and her husband Dave of Columbiana; a son Benny H. Walters and his wife Kay of Alvarado, TX; a sister Willa Dean Cunningham of Mempis,TN; 10 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother Bennie Walters and five sisters Melissa Walters, Marie Moyer, Sammie Red, Frankie Hooker and Jolene Davis Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 7, 2009, at the First Christian Church in Columbiana with Mr. Clarence Mansfield officiating. Burial will be in Green Haven Memorial Gardens. Friends may call one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church.
