Obituary

PETERSBURG - C. Raymond Koch, 95, passed away at Salem Regional Medical Center late Tuesday evening, January 13 surrounded by his loving family. Ray was born on January 9, 1920 in Petersburg, a son of Arthur and Florence (Barth) Koch, and was a life-long area resident. A 1939 graduate of Springfield High School, he was a self-employed farmer specializing in poultry, potatoes, and grain. Ray was a member of the Springfield Ruritans, the Ohio Farm Bureau, and the Springfield Historical Society. He served 12 years on the Springfield school board, and was a faithful member of the Gideons. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Petersburg. Ray leaves to cherish his precious memory his wife, the former Vivian Wietelmann whom he married June 6, 1942; two daughters, Carol and her husband Sam McKinny of Salem and Beth and her husband Thomas Bean of Boardman; two sons, Robert of Canton and Philip and his wife Patty of New Middletown; daughter-in-law Kim Welsh-Koch of Petersburg; 15 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; a sister Martha and husband Jack Kennedy of Petersburg; and a brother Roy Koch and his wife Judy of Petersburg. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Ruth Yauman, his brother Paul, and his son Thomas (2012). Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 17 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, 14394 Youngstown - Pittsburgh Road, Petersburg, OH 44454 with Pastor Aimee Raymond officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 16 from 5-7 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, and also one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will take place in Petersburg cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests material contributions may be made in Raymond's memory to Gideons International, PO Box 73, Columbiana, OH 44408; the American Cancer Society, 525 North Broad Street, Canfield OH 44406-9274; or to the Memorial Fund at St. John Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 245, Petersburg, OH 44454 . The Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in North Lima has been entrusted with the arrangements.
