Carl E. Shank, 89 NORTH LIMA- Carl E. Shank, 89, of North Lima, passed away at Hospice House in Poland Saturday evening. Carl was born on October 27, 1922 in North Lima, Ohio, the son of Walter and Mabel (Spiker) Shank, and had been an area resident all his life. A 1940 graduate of North Lima High School, Carl was a veteran of the Korean War. He spent his early working years as a vegetable farmer selling his produce at Pyatt Street Market in Youngstown, where he met his future wife, Olga. Carl is credited with creating a one of a kind swim club/fishing lake/ picnic facility of its time, Wildwood Lake Park. Known throughout the area as a fun-filled destination, Wildwood provided a welcome respite for hot summer days. He designed, built, and maintained Wildwood Lake Park from its inception in 1964 until he sold it twenty years later. Carl leaves to cherish his precious memory two sons, Jeffrey (Paula) Shank of North Lima and Douglas (Diane) Shank of Sweet Home, Oregon; seven grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, Carl was preceded in death by his wife, the former Olga Csorba, whom he married on July 10, 1948 and died on October 28, 2001; son Gary; and granddaughter Helen Adams. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 8, at the North Lima Mennonite Church in North Lima, where he attended his entire life. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday and one hour prior to the services Wednesday at the church. Carl's family wishes to extend a very sincere thanks to Hospice of the Valley for exceptional care shown to Carl while he was a resident there. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of the Valley in memory of Carl. The family has entrusted the Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in North Lima with the arrangements. Family and friends are invited to visit www.seederly-mongandbeck.com to sign the online guest registry or to send private condolences.
