Cathy S. Knopp, 57, of Albion, Indiana, was found at Central Noble High School early Wednesday morning, July 30, 2008, where she passed away. Miss Knopp was born May 23, 1951 in Salem, Ohio, the daughter of John H. and Helen M. (Todd) Knopp. Cathy was a 1969 graduate of Greenford High school, a 1974 Graduate of Goshen College, where she earned a Bachelors degree in English and a 1986 graduate of the Indiana University Fort Wayne Campus, where she earned a Masters degree in Education. Miss Knopp was a resident of the local area until moving to Indiana, where she had been a high school English teacher at Central Noble High School for the past 30 years. Cathy was the drama and theatre director, led yearly student trips to Stratford, Ontario, had sponsored prom, student government and was a score keeper for various athletic events. She was a member of the Indiana State Teachers Association. Cathy was nominated and received many awards during her teaching career for outstanding service. She received recognition in Who's Who of American Teachers in the United States in the top seven percent of the nation. Miss Knopp was a member of the College Mennonite Church in Goshen, Indiana. Cathy is survived by her mother, Mrs. Helen Knopp of Salem, Ohio. Other survivors include one sister, Mrs. Emily (William) Baker of Columbus, Indiana and one brother, Mr. Scott Knopp of Salem. She also leaves two nephews, Peter and Neil, of Columbus, Indiana. Miss Knopp was preceded in death on October 23, 1984 by her father John Knopp. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 2, 2008 at Midway Mennonite Church in Columbiana with Rev. Ernest Martin officiating, assisted by Pastor Rose Widmer. Burial will be in Midway Mennonite Cemetery. Friends may call from 7-9 pm on Friday, August 1, 2008 at the Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in Columbiana and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. A memorial service will be held August 9, 2008 at Central Noble High School Auditorium. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that material tributes be made to Midway Mennonite Church to be used for a mission project.
