NEW MIDDLETOWN - Charles A. Valentine, Sr., 84, passed away peacefully Wednesday afternoon, April 22 at Masternick Memorial Health Care Center with his loving family around him. Mr. Valentine was born on September 9, 1931 in Rochester, PA, a son of Oakland and Cecelia (Cleba) Valentine. He came to the Youngstown area as a child and moved to North Lima in 1965. He married the former Mary Meenachan on September 13, 1952, and together they would raise five children. Charles was a truck driver for Holly Beverage and Hawthorne Bakery, and retired in 1983 from Youngstown Sheet and Tube where he worked as a mason. Charles was of the Roman Catholic faith and a member of St. Jude's Catholic Church in Columbiana. He belonged to the Altar and Rosary Society at Sacred Heart Church. He also was a member of the Steelworkers Union. He leaves to cherish his precious memory his wife Mary of North Lima, with whom he would have celebrated 63 years of marriage this year; three daughters, Mary Ann (Larry) Dickson of Columbiana, Patricia Valentine of New Middletown, and Barbara Valentine of North Lima; two sons, Charles Valentine Jr. of North Lima and Phillip (Nancy) Valentine of Greenford; nine grandchildren Michael Shane (Sue) Blosser, Niki (Frank) Dispenza, Scott (Shannon) Valentine, Jason Sexton, Neil Valentine, Brianna (Bob) Lane, Kenny (Kelly) Wright, Michael Wright, and Jeremy Valentine; 15 great-grandchildren; a brother Robert (Marge) Valentine of Leetonia; and a sister Catherine Hirst of Poland. Mr. Valentine was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters Margaret Cheslock and Mary Smith, and three brothers James, Paul "Butch", and Bernie Valentine. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 27 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Jude Catholic Church, 180 7th Street, Columbiana with Father Dan Cipher officiating. Special music will begin at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 26 at 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Seederly-Mong and Beck Funeral Home, 11500 Market Street, North Lima. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the nurses and staff at Masternick Memorial Health Care Center for the compassionate care and kindness shown to Mr. Valentine. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations may be made in Charles' memory to the American Diabetes Association, 4500 Rockside Rd #440, Independence, OH 44131; or S.R.C.C.C. at Mt. Olivet (Community of Churches Feeding our Neighbors), P.O. Box 24, North Lima, OH 44452.
