Cornel "Corky" Bogdan, 82 North Lima - Cornel "Corky" Bogdan, passed away Saturday morning January 17, 2009 at home with family at his side. Corky was born January 31, 1926 in Youngstown. He was a graduate of East High School. Corky served his country as a Corporal in the United States Army-Counter Intelligence Division, receiving an Army of Occupation Medal and a World War II Victory Medal. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vasile and Domnica, his wife Barbara (Tumbri), his daughter Judith (McDonagh), and his brother, John (Canton, Ohio). Corky leaves behind his sons and daughter-in-laws, Cornel and Karen Bogdan of Hubbard and Dr. Charles and Tracie Bogdan of Canton, along with seven grandchildren - Maggie and Sally Bogdan of Hubbard; Brooke, Madelyn and Peyton Bogdan of Canton; Michael McDonagh of Youngstown and Christopher McDonagh of Poland. Corky was the owner and sole proprietor of Bogdan Heating and Air Conditioning in North Lima for over 55 years. He was an avid golfer and Cleveland Indians fan. He was a very active member of St. Jude Catholic Church in Columbiana. Corky was a member of the Romanian Club, VFW and a former Grand Knight for the Knights of Columbus. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of the Valley. Calling hours will be at Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home, 154 South Elm St. Columbiana, Ohio on Tuesday, January 20, 2009 from 5-8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at St. Jude Catholic Church, 180 Seventh St. in Columbiana with Father Thomas Ziegler as Celebrant. Burial will take place in Youngstown at Calvary Cemetery where the American Legion Benjamin Firestone Post #290 of Columbiana will conduct a military honor's service.
