Donald R. Ackerman, 71, of Austintown, Ohio, passed away at 11:15 p.m. on Friday, April 17, 2009 following an extended illness. He was born March 8, 1938 in Salem, Ohio, the son of Ralph and Gertrude (Sauerwein) Ackerman. Mr. Ackerman was a life long area resident and a graduate of North Lima High School. Donald was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene. He was employed by IBM as a computer technician for 27 years, retiring in 1992. He was also an avid woodworker and a master tech mechanic. Donald is survived by his wife, Pauline Ackerman whom he married on February 19, 1993. He is also survived by four sons, Mark (Mary Beth) Ackerman of Chester, West Virginia, Benjamin Ackerman of Columbiana, Ohio, Jeffrey Ackerman of Bessemer, Pennsylvania, Aaron Ackerman of Tokyo, Japan; two step-daughters, Sherry Catoline of Boardman, Ohio, Brenda L. Connolly of Austintown, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Aila Rae, Jennie Marie, Shane, Eric, Arin, Arianne, Miranda; three step grandchildren, Ryan, Brittany, Ariana; one great-grandchild, Ray Cayden; two sisters, Cheryl (Tom) Bell of Columbiana, Karen (Del) Houser of Madison, Florida; and two brothers, Dennis (Carol) Ackerman of Manlius, New York, Robert Ackerman of Boardman, Ohio. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 24, 2009 at the Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in North Lima with Rev. Michael Byus officiating. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, April 23, 2009 at the Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in North Lima. Burial will be in Green Haven Memorial Gardens.
