SALEM - Donald C. Rapp, 80, of Essex I passed away peacefully in his sleep at 8:15 am on Friday morning, April 3, 2009. Mr. Rapp was born July 26, 1928 in Columbiana, Ohio, the son of Curtis and Erma Meek Rapp. He lived in Columbiana most of his life moving to Salem 10 years ago. He was employed by Columbiana Foundry for over 40 years, starting there at the age of 18. He was a 1946 graduate of Columbiana High School and of the Presbyterian faith. He is one of the founders of the Columbiana Little League Baseball and the Little League Football in the 60's. He coached the Franklin Furniture team that won their series. He also coached a Little League Football team. He was an avid Cleveland Indians, Cleveland Browns, and Nascar fan. He was also an avid golfer and fisherman. He enjoyed watching many a baseball game, football game, golf tournament, basketball game, or race with his sons and grandsons. He enjoyed collecting all types of sports memorabilia, and was especially proud of his die-cast race car collection. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy J. McLaughlin whom he married on March 3, 1950. He is survived by his daughter, Linda J (Carl) Null of Cottageville, SC, Richard D. Rapp of Lisbon, and Kevin E. (April) Rapp of Columbiana. His twin sisters, Jean Caldwell of Columbiana and Jane (Carl) Dodson of Columbiana. He had 16 grandchildren/step-grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren/step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sons, Keith Duane Rapp and Donald C. Rapp, Jr., and his sister, Joanne Stewart. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at the Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in Columbiana. Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at the Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in Columbiana. Burial will be in Columbiana Cemetery.
