Sep 26, 1934 — Dec 14, 2013
NORTH LIMA - Donald James Winkel, 79, of North Lima, passed away Saturday morning, December 14 at Heritage Manor in Youngstown. Donnie was born on September 26, 1934 in Youngstown, a son of Arthur and Georgina (Ritchie) Winkel. He was a life-long area resident. He was a 1952 Springfield High School graduate, and was a member of Mount Olivet Church. He served in the Army in Germany from 1957-1959. Donnie worked for Bruning/OCE as a serviceman for blueprint machines. He also installed cash registers. He retired in 1999 after over 35 years of service. Donnie loved motorcycle riding along the trails in the mountains and horseback riding in Montana. He enjoyed being outside and tending to his large garden. He would travel to the Carolinas in the winters with his wife, Kay. But most of all, he loved having his family together. Once a year, he would treat all the grandchildren to a special weekend adventure for good grades. A different place was chosen every time creating lasting memories. He leaves to cherish his precious memory his wife, the former Kay Rapp, whom he married on October 26, 1961; two daughters, Tina (Vince) Turnbull of North Lima and Heidi (Mark) Milstead of Canfield; five grandchildren, Hannah and Matthew Milstead and Allison, Ryan, and Anna Turnbull; three sisters Nancy (Jim) Gleason of Tampa, FL, Marge (Don) Renstrom of Austintown, Kathy (Byron) White of Berlin Center; and a brother Richard (Elaine) Winkel of North Lima. Donnie was preceded in death by his parents. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, December 21 at 12:00 pm at Mount Olivet Church, 410 West South Range Road, North Lima with Pastor Jerry Kruse officiating along with Chaplain Dan Tayman. The family will receive friends for two hours prior to the service at 10:00 am. at the church. The family would like to extend their thanks to following doctors for their care and compassion in treating Donnie, Dr. Denise Bobovnyik, Dr. Charles Wilkins, and Dr. Joseph Cordova.
