Doris L. Dowdle, 85 of Columbiana, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, January 8, 2009 at the Salem Community Hospital. Doris was born July 21, 1923, the daughter of Walker and Lona (Klingensmith) Bean. Mrs. Dowdle was a graduate of Struthers High School. She enjoyed doing needlepoint and playing cards in earlier years. Doris was active in the Columbiana Senior Citizens. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Columbiana, where she was the church secretary for many years and was also involved in the Women's club. Doris was preceded in death on September 12, 1999 by her husband, John Grady Dowdle, whom she married February 4, 1944. She is survived by one daughter, Cynthia (Robert) Clark of Florida; one son, John "Jack" (Carol) Dowdle of Columbiana, Ohio; and five grandchildren, Samantha Clark, Nichole Clark, Robert Clark II, Leigh-Anne Dowdle and John-Grady Dowdle. Mrs. Dowdle was preceded in death by one sister. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 11, 2009, at the Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in Columbiana. Friends may call one hour prior to the service Sunday, January 11, 2009 from 1-2 p.m. at the Funeral Home. The family suggests that material contributions be made to the First United Methodist Church Women's Club in memory of Doris.
