Obituary

Dorothy L. McRill Smith, 93, formerly of North Lima, Ohio, passed away at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, July 27, 2007 at the Shepherd of the Valley in Boardman, Ohio. Dorothy was born on December 29, 1913 in Struthers, Ohio, the daughter of Albert and Anna McCleery Richards. Mrs. Smith was a life-long area resident living in North Lima for 40 years before moving to Shepherd of the Valley. She worked at J.C. Penny in Boardman Plaza and in the Mall as a stock lady for 20 plus years. She was a member of Mt. Olivet United Church of Christ in North Lima and she had organized funeral dinners for over 20 years. Dorothy had also been active in P.T.A. at Jackson School of Brownlee Woods, Youngstown. In earlier years, she had been very active in the Former Grace Methodist Church in Youngstown. She was also known for being a wonderful cook and for her baking, especially her "from scratch" butterscotch pies and scotch shortbread cookies. Dorothy also loved to play cards and belonged to many senior citizens groups from North Lima, Brownlee Woods, Youngstown and Liberty. She was preceded in death in 1948 by her first husband, Joseph McRill. They were married in 1931 and she was preceded in death in 1964 by her second husband, Lindley Smith, whom she married in 1953. She is survived by two daughters; Donna May and her husband Donald Hollister of Columbiana and Beverly Pack of Poland, one sister, Mrs. Wilma Guyer of Struthers and one brother, Paul and his wife Bertha Richards of North Lima; 3 granddaughters, 2 grandsons, 9 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. Dorothy was also preceded in death by one sister, Betty J. Watts and also by her son-in-law of 50 years Edward L. Pack. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 30, 2007 at the Mount Olivet United Church of Christ in North Lima, Ohio with Rev. Jerry Kruse officiating. Burial will be in Lake Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 10-11:00 a.m. Monday at the church. Family suggests that material tributes be made to Mount Olivet United Church of Christ, 410 W. South Range Road, North Lima, Ohio 44452. Seederly-Mong and Beck Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
