Pittsburgh - Dorothy Baird Staaf, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt great aunt, and friend to many, passed away October 31, 2016 at UPMC in Pittsburgh, following a short valiant battle with cancer. She was born in Salem, Ohio on March 27, 1948 to Leonard and Erma (Detrow) Baird. She was a graduate of Greenford High School and received her social work degree from YSU. Dorothy touched many lives in her role as a social worker at NOAS in Warren and Children's Services in Youngstown. She was renowned for her candy and cookie baking. She will be greatly missed by her daughter Julie and her husband, Chris Sakmar and her son Michael Staaf and his wife Jennifer. She cherished the years she shared her home with her twin grandchildren, Devin and Makayla Staaf. Dorothy's immediate family resides in Youngstown. Dorothy is also survived by two sisters, Esther Hoisington of Portland, OR, and Ethel (Glen) Wenger of Columbiana. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Mable Pfeiffer and Mary Ellen Baird. Visitation will be Friday, November 4 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home, 11500 Market Street, North Lima. A memorial service to honor Dorothy's life will be held on Saturday, November 5 at 11:00 a.m. at Midway Mennonite Church, 13376 Columbiana-Canfield Rd, Columbiana. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that donations may be made in Dorothy's memory to Beatitude House, 238 Tod Lane, Youngstown, Ohio 44504.
