Obituary

POLAND - Edgar L. Guterba, 83, passed away peacefully early Sunday morning, July 5 at The Assumption Village and Marion Living Center in North Lima following a brief illness. Mr. Guterba was born on July 21, 1931 at home in Poland, a son of Lloyd and Hannah (Basler) Guterba. A 1950 graduate of Springfield Local High School, he married the former Florence Marttala on August 29, 1953. Edgar was a proud member of the Army and the 82nd Airborne division from 1955 to 1957, and later served in the Army Reserves. Edgar was a life-long member of Mount Olivet United Church of Christ in North Lima. He served in many capacities there: President of the congregation, Elder in the church, chairman of property committee, as well as numerous other responsibilities. A dedicated farmer, he served on the Agland board, was a member of the farm bureau, and oversaw 'Old McDonald's Barn' at the Canfield Fair for many years. Mr. Guterba, as he was affectionately known by all of the children, drove bus for South Range Local Schools for 38 years. He also delivered bulk Vindicators to vendors in Pennsylvania for many many years. Edgar enjoyed tending to his own farm, especially the cows, and mowing his lawn as he loved to beautify the land and had great pride for his family homestead. But most of all, he loved to spend time with his grandchildren and great grandson and was eagerly anticipating the arrival of a new great granddaughter soon. Edgar leaves to cherish his precious memory his daughter Cheryl Andrella and her husband Brad of Newton Falls; daughter-in-law Deborah Guterba of Poland; three grandchildren Megan (J.J.) Thornton of Poland, Jared (Jessica) Bilas of North Bloomfield, and Kyle Guterba of Poland; great grandson Xander; and sisters Helen Oliver of Poland and Mildred (Donald) Stratton of Poland. Mr. Guterba was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Florence who passed away April 6, 2001, and his son Gerald who passed away May 5, 2015. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 11 at 11:00 a.m. at Mount Olivet U.C.C., 410 W. South Range Road, North Lima, with Pastor David Howell and Pastor Jerry Cruze officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday, July 10 from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Mount Olivet U.C.C., and also one hour prior to the service, at 10:00 a.m., Saturday morning.
