Edward E. Gerner, 86 of 873 Matthews Rd. Youngstown, passed away at 7:20 p.m. on Monday, May 5, 2008 at the Caprice Health Care Center in North Lima. Mr. Gerner was born September 12, 1921 in North Beaver Twp., Lawrence County, PA, the son of John and Carrie Mack Gerner. Edward moved to New Springfield area in 1963. He retired in 1984 from Ohio Turnpike Canfield section, as a maintenance man. He had worked there twelve years. Prior to that he had worked in construction and he had also worked as the manager at the Petersburg Milling Co. of Bessemer, PA. Mr. Gerner enjoyed woodworking and gardening. Edward was preceded in death on February 16, 2003, by his wife, Nonda Gerner. They were married January 18, 1963. He is survived by two daughters, Lourine Hayes and her husband Jack of Bessemer, PA and Vada Henshaw and her husband Gilbert of Roanoke, VA.; two sisters, Mrs. Arnold (Bessie ) Shotts of Youngstown and Mrs. Marcella Perkins of New Middletown; ten grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. Mr. Gerner was also preceded in death by two brothers and a sister. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 9, 2008 at the St. John Lutheran Church of Petersburg with Rev. Kenneth Hacker officiating. Burial will be in Petersburg Cemetery. Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, May 8, 2008 at the Seeederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in North Lima and one hour prior to the service on Friday, May 9, 2008 at the church.
