Obituary

POLAND - Edwin C. Oliver, 92, passed away suddenly Saturday evening, March 7 at his home. He was born on March 1, 1923 in Canfield, the son of Joseph and Nora E. (Moff) Oliver, and was a lifelong area resident. Ed was proud to serve his country by joining the U.S. Army during WWII, participating in the Asiatic and Pacific Theatre in Leyte and Okinawa. He married the former Helen Guterba on August 12, 1949. Ed worked for Diamond Steel as a truck driver for eight years in his younger years. He was employed as a gear cutter for 15 years by United Engineering of Youngstown, which later became Wean United. Later he became a school bus driver for Boardman Local Schools, a job from which he retired after 25 years. A long-time member of Mt. Olivet United Church of Christ in North Lima, he served as a deacon there for nine years. Ed was a proud member of the VFW Triangle Post 2799 of New Springfield. He loved spending time with his family. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Helen; his daughters Susan Foley and her husband John of Marion, OH and Mary Ann Dornon and her husband Thomas of New Middletown; grandchildren Abby (Tino), Sharon, Ann, Travis (Heather), Laura (Aaron) and Mark; great granddaughter Mia; and his brothers Harold J. Oliver and Donald M. Oliver, both of North Lima. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Myron C. Oliver, and his sister Lois Patrick. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 12 at 11:00 a.m. at Mount Olivet United Church of Christ, 410 West South Range Road, North Lima, OH with Pastor David Howell officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 11 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at Seederly-Mong and Beck Funeral Home, 11500 Market Street, North Lima, OH and also one hour prior to the service, at 10:00 a.m. at Mt. Olivet U.C.C. on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Ed's name may be made to the Mt. Olivet Building Fund, 410 West South Range Road, North Lima, OH 44452. The Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in North Lima has been entrusted with the arrangements.
