Effie A. Baer, 77, of 12275 Market Street, North Lima, went to be with her Lord at 4:30 p.m., Thursday, December 20, 2007, following a four year battle with cancer. Mrs. Baer was born in Kalona, Iowa on February 23, 1930, the daughter of Lewis and Magdalena (Hershberger) Ropp. Effie moved to the local area in 1954. She worked at the Rockview Mennonite Church as an activities planner for four years. Effie was a homemaker and an avid quilter. She was a member of the North Lima Mennonite Church; she also was a past Sunday school teacher, served on the food committee and helped with the children's clubs of the church. Effie also worked part time in past years at the Das Dutch Haus and Barth Farms and more recently served as a janitor at North Lima Mennonite Church. Mrs. Baer is survived by her husband Harold Baer, whom she married on January 1, 1959. She is also survived by two daughters; Gloria (Ed) Wilson of New Springfield and Marlene (Gerald) Witmer of Poolsville, Maryland, two sons; Gareth (Karla) Baer of North Lima and Arnold Baer of Columbiana, five sisters; Lydia (Alvin) Gingerich, Martha Bender, Verda (Bill) Swartzendruber, Edith (Paul) Helmuth all of Kalona, Iowa and Ada (Ivo) Gingrich of Colorado Springs, Colorado, one brother; Vernon (Mary Elva) Ropp of Kalona, Iowa, nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Effie was preceded in death by two brothers; Omer and Ernest Ropp and three sisters; Ella Mae, Mary Jane and Esther Ropp. The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 27, 2007, at the North Lima Mennonite Church with Rev. Robert Wengerd officiating. Friends may call from 3-5 and 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, December 26, 2007 and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday, December 27, 2007. Burial will be at the North Lima Mennonite Cemetery. The family suggests that material tributes be made to the North Lima Mennonite Church or MVI Hospice, 4891 Belmont Ave, Youngstown, Ohio 44505.
