Elmer E. Martin, 95, of Columbiana, formerly of North Lima, passed away on Thursday, June 14, at St. Mary's Alzheimer Center in Columbiana. Elmer was born on June 15, 1916 in North Lima, the son of Elmer E. and Effie (Flohr) Martin and was a lifelong area resident. He retired from General Fireproofing in 1971, but his true calling for 75 years was as a self-employed electrician. He passed his knowledge of that trade on as an advisor to the Mill Creek My-T-Mites 4-H Club. Elmer had a passion for travel and experiencing the wonders of nature. His was a simple faith based life filled with love of God, family, friends and compassion for those less fortunate than himself. He was an active member of Mt. Olivet for most of his 95 years. Elmer leaves to cherish his precious memory his daughters, Carol Jean Owens of Rockford, Ill., Laura (John) Baylon of Cleveland, and Helen (Paul) Moore of Boardman; his son, James (Cheryl) Martin of Greenwood, Ind.; 10 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Pauline of 49 years, his second wife Ameila, his brother Ralph, a grandson Roy Owens, and sons-in-law Walter Evans and Louie Owens. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 18 at Mt. Olivet United Church of Christ in North Lima with Pastor Melinda Lacefield officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the services Monday at the church. The Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in North Lima has been entrusted with the arrangements. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at Whispering Pines Assisted Living and St. Mary's Alzheimer's Center for the compassionate, loving care they have given Elmer for the past 11 years.
