Evelyn Jean Smith, 85, of Boardman, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, June 25, 2009 at the Hospice House in Poland from complications of cancer. She was born October 7, 1923 in New Springfield, Ohio, the daughter of the late George and Bessie (Bossert) Welton. Mrs. Smith was a lifelong area resident. She was a homemaker, sold Avon, and also worked at McKevely's in the Revlon department from 1953-1960. She was a member of the Boardman Baptist Church, was an avid reader and loved planting flowers and watching them grow. Evelyn also enjoyed watching old time movies and reading her bible. Evelyn was preceded in death on January 13, 1994 by her husband, Ralph Joseph Smith whom she married on July 25, 1942. She is survived by two daughters, Carol (Sidney) Snyder of Winchester, Tennessee and Barbara (Lee) Yaist of Poland, Ohio; one son, Ralph Smith Jr. of Youngstown, Ohio; one sister, Arlene (Mike) Mavracick of Boardman, Ohio; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by seven brothers and two sisters. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 27, 2009 at the Boardman Baptist Church with Pastor Dennis Massie officiating. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 27, 2009 prior to the service at the Boardman Baptist Church. The family suggests that material contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
