Obituary

Gene E. Douglass, 79, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, March 5, at the Heritage Valley Health System, Beaver Campus. Gene was born on Jan. 4, 1933, in North Sewickley Township, Pa., the son of Wesley W. and Verna (Bolland) Bowman Douglass. He graduated from Youngstown State University in 1972 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics and psychology, and received his MBA in 1977. Gene worked for Babcock & Wilcox as a Manager of Employee Benefits for 34 years, retiring in 1990. He served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1956 during the Korean War as a radar man on the U.S.S. Phillips. Gene faithfully attended his wife's churches, most recently the New Waterford and Clarkson Presbyterian Churches. He was a member of the Columbiana County Farm Bureau, the Beaver County Personnel Association, Gotham Club, and the Springfield Township Ruritans. Besides spending time with his family, Gene loved working on his farm and riding his tractor. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, the Rev. Jan Douglass, whom he married on Oct. 15, 1989; his daughters, Kinsey and Megan Douglass, both at home; a brother, Glen (Rose) Douglass of Raymondville, Mo.; a sister, Virginia McVan of Columbiana; and several nieces and nephews. Gene was preceded in death by his first wife, Sylvia Darlene Douglass, whom he married on Dec. 14, 1956, and died on March 17, 1988; a brother, Wesley Douglass, who died in 1988; and a sister, Gladys Douglass, who died in 1938. A memorial service will be held in Gene's honor on Sunday, March 18, 2012, at 3 p.m. at the Petersburg Presbyterian Church in Petersburg, with the Rev. Nick Mager officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the church. Private graveside services will be held Wednesday, March 7, at Concord Cemetery in North Sewickley, Pa.
