Obituary

George Francis Quattro passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 17th surrounded by his loving family at Hospice House in Poland, Ohio. George was born in Belington, West Virginia in 1926, the son of Raphael and Eva Marie (Hollenbach) Quattro. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in Austria and Italy. He held rank of Private First Class, I & R Platoon 350th Infantry, 88th Division as a Special Police and Equestrian Unit Trainer and Sharpshooter. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Army of Occupation Medal and World War II Victory Medal. He guarded General Patton and General Eisenhower on tour in Austria. He proudly served from 1946-1947. After the military, he moved to Youngstown, Ohio where he worked for Youngstown Sheet & Tube Briar Hill Works as a 1st and 2nd Helper for 25 years until the closing of the steel mills. Later, he was a substitute bus driver for South Range and Springfield Schools, and later became employed by Columbiana Exempted Village Schools as a bus driver. He was a member of VFW Local Post 93 in Youngstown and the American Hunting Club. He had a love for hunting, wildlife and gardening, and always making his favorite spaghetti sauce. George was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He was a truly "Unforgettable" person and never met a stranger and always "happy-go-lucky." He leaves behind his devoted wife Carrie (Carol); his three daughters, Monica (Rich) Fitch of Columbiana, Sarah (Jack) Corll of Columbiana, Cheryl (Randy) Pate of Orlando, Florida; four grandchildren; Richie Fitch of Columbiana, Jack (Nicole) Corll of Diamond, Ohio, Nicole (Rich) Witmer of Wooster, Ohio and Kailey Pate of Orlando, Florida; four great-grandchildren; Jack Tyler and Eva Marie Corll and Cyrus and Casen Witmer; and numerous nieces and nephews; family pet Lucy; two brothers; Cosmos Quattro of Owings Mills, MD and Frank Quattro of Lost River, West Virginia; two sisters; Angela King of Baltimore, MD and Eleanor Lapacik of Cannonsburg, PA. He also leaves behind special nieces Lynn (Lewis) Steinfield, Peggy Quattro and Debbie (Rob) Wallace, and nephew Patrick (Lisa) Quattro, who were like his own children. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers; Louis Quattro and Lawrence Quattro and sister; Mary Salafia, and special nephew; Michael Quattro. He will always be in all our thoughts, in our hearts and in our minds. He was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church in Columbiana and was very dedicated to his religious faith and always the needs of others. Mass will be held Saturday, January 21, 2012 at St. Jude Catholic Church, Columbiana at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Gabriel Yablonsky, Co-Celebrant, Rev. Tomas Ziegler, Celebrant, and a Homily by Dr. Louis Cosentino. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, January 20, 2011 at Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home, Columbiana. Burial with military honors will be held at the Crest Haven Memorial Gardens. Funeral Arrangements are being handled by Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home. Donations may be made in George's name to the Hospice House in Poland or Second Harvest Food Bank of Mahoning Valley or to the donor's choice.
