George S. Simon, 84, of East Palestine, Ohio, passed away at his home December, 14, 2010 following an extended illness with his family by his side. George was born July 10, 1926, in Boardman, Ohio, the son of Marshall and Freda Simon. George graduated from Boardman High School in 1944 and was a graduate of The Ohio State University. George was preceded in death by his wife Eleanor, who was also a graduate of Boardman High School and The Ohio State University. Through the years, George was member of the Fairfield Township Ruritan Club, a Columbiana County Fair Board member, served as a director for the Columbiana Milling Company, and later for the Carrolton Farmers Exchange. George was both a director and agent for the Springfield Township Mutual Insurance Association. George's family and farm were always his first love and priority. George always enjoyed watching The Ohio State University sports teams compete, and was an avid high school and collegiate basketball fan. He was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in New Springfield, Ohio. George is survived by his only brother, Don (Sally) Simon, Carmel, Indiana; and three sons, Phil (Vickie) Simon, Olathe, Kansas; Lee (Susan) Simon Salem, Ohio, and Dan (Debbie) Simon Unity, Ohio. George also is survived by six grandchildren, Mandy, Eric, Brett, Kim, Dan, and Katherine, and one great grandson, Simon, all of whom he loved so much. Memorial services will be held at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in New Springfield on Sunday, December 26 at 3 PM, where the family will receive friends and family one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers any donations be made to either the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 13519 Woodworth Rd, New Springfield, Ohio 44443 or the Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St, Youngstown, Ohio 44512.
