Gerald "Jerry" Double, 81, went home to be with his Lord, Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at the Hospice House in Poland. Jerry was born June 15, 1927 in East Lewistown, Ohio, the son of Myrtle (Bossert) Double and Russell Double. Mr. Double served in the Navy in 1945 after graduation. He worked at Mullens Manufacturing and was later a buyer at the F.C. Russell Co., Columbiana. He retired from J. & L. Steel (formerly the Youngstown Sheet & Tube) after 25 years as an inside buyer in 1985. He later retired from Sheely's Furniture and Appliances in 2005. Jerry loved and served his Lord in many ways and was a member of the First Christian Church in Columbiana where he served as a deacon over 25 years, taught Sunday school classes, served on the building committee and as a trustee. Mr. Double loved all sports. He excelled in basketball and belongs to the South Range Hall of Fame. He enjoyed travel. Jerry is survived by his wife, Marian (Smith) Double, whom he married August 19, 1950; one son, Gary B. of Reading, PA.; two grandsons, Russell and his wife Kristi of Mill Hall, PA. and Bryan and his wife Ashley of Gaithersburg, MD.; sister-in-law, Barbara of Salem, and four nieces and nephews and their families. A brother, Kenneth preceded him in death. A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 12, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Columbiana, with Mr. Clarence Mansfield and Mr. John Reed officiating. Burial will be in Petersburg Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Sunday, January 11, 2009 from 6-8 p.m. at the Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in Columbiana and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday, January 12, 2009 from 10-11 a.m. The family suggests that material contributions be made to the First Christian Church, 39 Cherry Street, Columbiana, Ohio 44408 or the Hospice House, 9803 Sharrott Road, Poland, Ohio 44514.
