Jan 27, 1934 — Dec 29, 2015
GREENFORD - Gerald E. Goehring, 81, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday morning, December 29 at Salem Regional Medical Center following a brief battle with cancer surrounded by his family. Mr. Goehring was born on January 27, 1934 in Mahoning County, a son of George Eli and Viola Mae (Flower) Goehring. A Boardman High School graduate, Gerald attended trade school for elevator mechanics. He proudly served our country by joining the Army in January of 1957, attaining the rank of PFC. He was honorably discharged December of 1958. Gerald worked at Dover Elevator Company as an installer, repairman, and inspector for 35 years. He belonged to Greenford Christian Church for over 40 years. He was a church trustee and also formed the "Friday Guys" - six retired friends who would do light maintenance at the church as needed on Fridays. They later expanded their work to Mondays and Wednesdays as well. Gerald was a member of the Greenford Ruritan for 35 years, and enjoyed camping and mowing his field. He spent much of his free time with his family and grandchildren. Gerald leaves his beloved wife, the former Mary Louise Kyser, whom he married September 15, 1961; his daughters, Janet Schaffer and her husband James of Greenford and Marjorie Goehring of Canfield; his sons David and his wife Janet of Columbiana and Paul and his wife Gyll of Industry, PA; seven grandchildren, Dana and Megan Goehring, Tessa and Chloe Goehring, and Zachary, Curtis and Travis Schaffer; and siblings Mary Louise (James) Higgins, Nora Lee (William) Klase, Naomi (Harry) Karlen, Katherine (Tom) Timlin, Elva Evans, Harry (Carol) Goehring, Dale Goehring, Larry (Sarah) Goehring, and Kenneth (Vickie) Goehring. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Glenny and Paul, who passed away as children and his brother -in-law Jack Evans. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 3 at 2:30 p.m. at Greenford Christian Church, 11767 Lisbon Rd, Greenford, OH 44422 with Minister Bruce Rhodes officiating.
