Gertrude E. Powers, 93, of Columbiana, passed away at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday, January 31, 2008 at Parkside Health Care Center. Gertrude was born on November 24, 1914 in Columbiana, the daughter of A. Roy and Martha King Faulk. Mrs. Powers was a life-long area resident of Columbiana. She worked as a clerk at the U.S. Post Office in Columbiana retiring in 1989. In earlier years she worked as a clerk at the Firestone Store in Columbiana. Gertrude was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church in Columbiana where she was a member of the Womens Guild and was organist there for many years. She was a graduate of Columbiana High School. Mrs. Powers was preceded in death on January 4, 1983, by her husband Matthew Powers Sr. They were married November 18, 1933. Survivors include, one son; Milton (Ruth) Powers Sr., seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Gertrude was preceded in death by one son; Matthew Powers Jr., one sister; Margaret Sayers and by two grandchildren. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 4, 2008 at St. Jude Catholic Church in Columbiana with Rev. Thomas Ziegler officiating. Visiting hours will be from 9-10:00 a.m. prior to the service on Monday, February 4, 2008 at the Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in Columbiana. Burial will be in Columbiana Cemetery.
