Obituary

Grant E. Sloan, 67, of North Lima, Ohio, passed away at 2:05 p.m. on February 22, 2010 from Pulmonary Embolism resulting from a home accident in January. Mr. Sloan was born on November 27, 1942 in Salem, Ohio, the son of the late Grant U. and Marjorie G. Sloan. Grant was a 1960 Columbiana High School graduate. He was a retired 40 year meat cutter and painter. He loved the Lord Jesus with all his heart. He was a 26 year member of New Life Assembly of God serving in many areas of the church including God's Cupboard, ushering, lead home prayer bible study, and softball team member. Grant was a regular Red Cross blood donor giving over 16 gallons. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of three years serving in Germany during the Vietnam War. He enjoyed volunteering with his family leading worship at several nursing homes, fishing, was an avid Cleveland Indian, Cavs & Browns fan and most of all spending time with his family & babies! Mr. Sloan is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Arlene L. Sloan, whom he married on May 1, 1975. He is also survived by four daughters, Dr. Cynthia Sloan of Houston, TX, Sherri (John) Garver of Columbiana, Rebecca (Michael) Massacci of Boardman, Christy (Jeff) Joerndt of Austintown; two sons, Curtis R. (Brenda) Jacobsen of Poland, Pastor Bruce A. (Nancy) Jacobsen of North Canton; one sister, Carolyn (George) Reaggle of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; one twin brother, Gary (Mary Ellen) Sloan of Columbiana; thirteen grandchildren, Stacy, Emily, Kelly, Jessica, Megan, Zachary, Jack, Jennifer, Dominic, Vincent, Mia, Julia, Connor and five great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, March 1, 2010 at the New Life Assembly of God with Pastor Duane Bull officiating. Visiting hours will be from 1-3 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. on Monday, March 1, 2010 prior to the funeral service at the New Life Assembly of God. The family requests that material contributions be made to the area of missions at New Life Assembly of God, 2250 East Western Reserve Road, Poland, Ohio, 44514.
