COLUMBIANA - Gwendoline Lucille Houp, 89, passed away early Saturday morning at Salem Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Houp was born on February 9, 1925 in Wood, PA, a daughter of Albert and Margaret (Black) Rourke. She married E. Maxwell Houp on April 13, 1944, and together they raised five children. Gwendoline was employed at Bellenoff's as a press operator for 25 years. She enjoyed crocheting, bowling, and playing solitaire, but most of all she loved having her family over and cooking for them. She was a member of the American Legion Unit #290 and served as Past President of the Auxiliary. She was made a V.I.M. - a Very Important Member of the Post because of the many things she did out there. She loved the fish fry and was well known for her Texas sheet cakes. She leaves to cherish her memory daughter Elizabeth "Betty", with whom she made her home; sons Richard of Leetonia, James of Columbiana and Albert (Barbara) of Lisbon; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, and seven siblings. She was preceded in death her parents, her husband, E. Maxwell, who passed away August 23, 1986, a son Robert, three grandchildren, 1 great-grand-child, and five siblings. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests material contributions may be made in Gwendoline's memory to American Legion Unit #290 Woman's Scholarship Fund, PO Box 143, Columbiana, OH 44408. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 1 at 11 a.m. at Seederly-Mong and Beck Funeral Home, 154 S. Elm Street, Columbiana, OH 44408. The family will receive friends from 5 - 8 p.m. Tuesday September 30 at Seederly-Mong and Beck Funeral Home, 154 S. Elm St., Columbiana, OH 44408 and also one hour before the service, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Crest Haven Cemetery. The Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in Columbiana, Ohio is entrusted with the arrangements.
