Obituary

SALEM - Harry L. Johnson, 91, formerly of New Springfield, passed away peacefully Friday, March 4 at Essex of Salem where he had resided for the last three and a half years. Harry was born on February 12, 1925 in Youngstown, OH, to Olivia and Louis Johnson who had immigrated to the United States from Sweden. A life-long area resident, he graduated from Canfield High School. Harry proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1945-1946, and was a carpenter all his life. He belonged to the Carpenters and Joiners Union Local 171 in Mahoning County. In his younger years he enjoyed fishing and hunting. Harry leaves to cherish his precious memory three daughters, Allyson White and her husband Robert of North Lima; Kathy Bakich and her husband Brian of North Lima; and Beth Kimble and her husband Randy of Boardman; daughter-in-law Helen Johnson of Boardman; three grandchildren Rob White (Amy), Melissa Shaw (Mark) and Dennis Johnson Jr.; six great-grandchildren Gracey, Brandy, and Riley White; Andrew Shandor, Mason and Tanner Shaw, and a brother Paul (Donna) Johnson of North Lima. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Dennis L. Johnson, who passed away on June 29, 2010 and his sister Viola Matak. A private family service will be held on Monday, March 7 at 11:00 a.m. at Seederly-Mong and Beck Funeral Home, 11500 Market Street, North Lima, with Pastor Dennis Massie officiating. The family members would like to express their thanks to the staff at Essex III for their loving care over the past few years. A special thank you to Eileen McCall for the time she spent with Harry.
