SALEM - Harry Witmer, 81, passed away early Thursday morning, April 7 at Salem Regional Medical Center. Mr. Witmer was born on February 12, 1935, in Dayton, VA, a son of the late Merle and Annie (Rhodes) Witmer. He was a well-known farmer and carpenter. Harry was a member of the Salem Mennonite Church. He is survived by his wife, the former Ruth VanPelt, whom he married May 20, 1962; three daughters, Lorraine (Clyde) Witmer of Monterey, VA, Phyllis (Arlin) Benner of McGaheysville, VA, and Thelma Witmer of Dayton, VA; three grandchildren, Austin and Jared Witmer of Monterey, VA, Courtney (Colin) McGurrin of Bartow, WV; one great granddaughter, Eleanora McGurrin of Bartow, WV; two brothers Amos H. Witmer of Mt. Crawford, VA, Jacob Witmer of New Holland, PA, and a sister Martha Lehman of Columbiana. He is preceded in death by three daughters, Beverly, Wanda and Diana; one son Clifford; two brothers Walter Witmer and Daniel Witmer, one sister Elsie Nason and two infant brothers. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 11 at Salem Mennonite Church, 40725 Lodge Road, Leetonia. Salem Mennonite Church ministry will officiate. Burial will follow in the Pleasant View Mennonite Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. on Sunday, April 10 at Salem Mennonite Church.
