Helen M. Black, 83 of Crandall Medical Center, Sebring, formerly of Kibler Road, New Waterford, passed away on Monday, September 8, 2008 at the Salem Community Hospital at 4:30 p.m., following a four month illness. Mrs. Black was born on July 24, 1925 in Petersburg, Ohio the daughter of Clyde H. and Jennie B. (Burkey) Sell. Helen was a lifelong area resident and a 1943 graduate of Petersburg High School. She was a homemaker and attended the Columbiana Baptist church and was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in New Springfield. Helen enjoyed knitting, reading, crocheting afghans and doilies, traveling in earlier years and doing puzzles. Helen is survived by her husband, Arrel J. Black, whom she married on June 25, 1947. Other survivors include her children, Marie (Edward) Miller of Homeworth, Ohio, Nancy (Edward) Walter of Wyoming, Michigan, Dianna (Robert) Stump of East Palestine, Ohio, Diane (Robert) Banar of Salineville, Ohio; seventeen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Mrs. Black was preceded in death by two brothers Ralph and Milton Sell. A funeral service will be held at the Columbiana Baptist Church on Friday, September 12, 2008 at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Ken Clark officiating. Burial will be in New Springfield Cemetery. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, September 11, 2008 at the Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in Columbiana and one hour prior to the funeral on Friday, September 12, 2008 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the Columbiana Baptist Church. The family suggests that material contributions be made to the Columbiana Baptist Church.
