Attorney Jack Kuhlman, 89, of 44295 Metz Road, Columbiana, Ohio, passed away at 2:43 p.m. on January 7, 2010 from infirmities of age. Jack was born on September 11, 1920 in Youngstown, Ohio, the son of the late William G. and Vera (Duesing) Kuhlman. Mr. Kuhlman was a 1937 graduate of Springfield Township High School and graduated from Harvard in 1942. He was a W.W. II Army Lieutenant in the Pacific Theatre serving in the Philippians. After the service Mr. Kuhlman returned to college and received his law degree from YSU in 1952. Jack was a practicing attorney at his law office in Columbiana for 30 years until his retirement in 1985. He had also been a professor of History and Economics at Youngstown State University, taught and coached basketball and football at Fairfield, Beaver Local and North Lima schools. He was affectionately known as "Grandpa" by Columbiana High School football and track teams. Mr. Kuhlman was an active member of the Zion Lutheran Church in New Middletown, served as solicitor of Washingtonville, New Middletown and Columbiana and was a member of the American Legion Post #290 of Columbiana. Jack was preceded in death on December 31, 1984 by his wife, Grace Marie Kuhlman, whom he married on May 23, 1948. He is survived by two sons, Jack W. (Rachel) Kuhlman of Columbiana, Ohio, Craig E. (Vicki) Kuhlman of Columbiana, Ohio; one sister, Donna Weyer of Midland, Michigan; one brother, William B. (Jane) Kuhlman of Midland, Michigan; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and by his loving companion of 17 years, Vanda McQuistion. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at the Zion Lutheran Church in New Middletown with Pastor Larry Klinker officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, January 11, 2010 at the Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in Columbiana, where the American Legion Benjamin firestone Post 290 of Columbiana will conduct a military honors service at 8 p.m.. Friends may also call one hour prior to the service from 10-11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at the Zion Lutheran Church in New Middletown. In Lieu of flowers the family requests that material contributions be made to the Zion Lutheran Church in New Middletown.
